HIGHER GROUND (Roush) Been down too long Getting lost in problems that can't be solved Take off the weight of the world I've carried around Let me fly Yeah Feel like I'm caught on a treadmill Hell-bent for nowhere Running in place Pressure is building Feel like I'm ready to break Let me fly To a higher ground Cut this line That's been holding me down And take off the weight of the world I've carried around Don't bring me down Let me fly to higher ground Just set me free Let me fly Let me fly On the right track but spinning my wheels I never got out of the gate Over and over I'm going in circles This energy's going to waste Let me fly To a higher ground Cut this line That's been holding me down And take off the weight of the world I've carried around Yeah Don't bring me down Let me fly to higher ground Just set me free Let me fly Let me fly Let me fly To a higher ground Cut this line That's been holding me down And take off the weight of the world I've carried around Let me fly To higher ground To higher ground Higher ground

about

A Crushing Tale...

Exactly 20 years ago, the first version of Crushing Ground released a debut album called, "Zero" in December of 2001.

Two years later, we knew that Chris was moving on, so we had a CG show professionally recorded at The Oregon Bar and Grill in Pittsburgh, PA. This was to document the band live and capture some of the new material as well as some of the songs that never made the first record.

When we formed a new version of the band, the material and these recordings were left behind in an old computer that eventually died.

Throughout the years, several IT attempts were made to retrieve those files to no avail. The information was scattered over three separate hard drives and the show was all but lost and forgotten... for many years. Still, I kept the drives.

Approaching the 20th Anniversary of "Zero", a last-ditch effort was attempted to recover the files. As fate would have it, the songs were actually retrieved this time (by none other than Mr. Art Bartlow..."IT Guy" extraordinaire)! THANKS ART! He pieced them all back together and I finally got the chance to mix and master the majority of that show. How cool is that?

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Listening to all of this “old” CG material, I was immediately taken aback by how tight the band was. We sure were a rehearsed ensemble! The memories from song to song came rushing back to me. I couldn’t help but remember all the long nights working on
arrangements, harmonies, lyrical and musical ideas that we crafted into our own unique brand of something.

We’ve always regretted not having real studio recordings of some of these songs. Now that they are properly mixed live, they actually sound better than “Zero” did in the studio. YES SIR! It confirms what I always knew about Crushing Ground, we were a LIVE band. We played our originals at shows long before I had any gear to record. We could hardly afford an 8-song debut disc in a real studio, much less recording 4 times that much material! It’s really kinda fitting to represent the early days of CG with LIVE versions of the songs. SO COOL!

Speaking of being LIVE, the Roush gang was in rare form that night. They really made these recordings something special. They all knew
they were being recorded and they amped up their responses.
THANK YOU ALL FOR CRUSHING IT! Your voices are immortalized :)

There was magic in the air that night and Michael Gonda captured it on his ProTools gear. GREAT JOB ENGINEERING MIKE! All these years later, Art Bartlow brought the magic back to us. THANK YOU ART!

So, here are TWENTY songs to mark the 20th Anniversary of “Zero”. With these EIGHT previously unreleased originals added, the project finally feels complete. What can I say, good things come to those
who wait and I think it was worth doing right. Back then I didn’t have the producing skills that I have now, so the long wait turned out to be a blessing.

“When you think of the past,
Do you try to forget?”

Not at all, I remember it like it was yesterday
with a crooked smile ;) ENJOY!
