"Still Burning" was written and demoed when I first built my studio. Once I decided to include it on this CD, I wrote a new intro song for it called "Smolder". This was a rare opportunity to use an ellipse in the title and have the two tracks play as one.

Containing some of my favorite lyrics I've ever penned, this song purposely has a U2-like vibe to it. From the cleaner Bono-like vocal delivery to the traveling tap-delay on the acoustic, I certainly got as close as I could to the Irish quartet... while hopefully still sounding like me. Even the Larry-like percussive toms helped give the track a more "worldly" sound.

"Smolder... Still Burning" is about one of the tougher breakups I've dealt with in my life. I love the run-on-sentence approach of combining famous lines of literature in the verses. Like how your mind can run amuck when you just break up with someone. You repeat all of these quotes and personal arguments in your head trying to make sense of it all. In the end, it's just telling someone that no matter what happens or how things may end, you will always hold a special flame for them.
