This song is the one I hear mentioned the most among fan-favorites from this disc. I wrote it about a bridge jumper I saw in Pittsburgh many years ago. The whole scene was so surreal that I went home, picked up the guitar and out came this song. I added the electric guitar, thinking I would finish the tracks with a full band but decided to release it exactly as it was. This wound up the ONLY song on the disc with an electric guitar.
lyrics
MAN ON A BRIDGE
There's a man on a bridge
Standing high in the wind
And everybody's wondering who he is
There's a crowd gathered 'round
Peering into the clouds
All waiting to see how he comes down
But birds fly
In the blue skies
Around him
Who are you?
There's a man on a bridge
And he's stepping to the edge
And everyone is wondering how this ends
Now the roads have been closed
Underneath in circling boats
The police are preparing for the worst
Still birds fly
In blue skies
Around him
Who?
Red engines have arrived
They raise a ladder to his side
The hours passing by
Above the flashing lights
There’s nowhere left
There's nowhere left to
There’s nowhere left to go
But down
Come Down
Come Down
Come Down
Come Down
Was a man on a bridge
Now they've taken him in
And I wonder if we'll see him there again
