I've been playing bars longer than I care to admit. I may be the performer hired for the night, but there are plenty of shows going on in the audience. I have seen the worst of 'em :) From the drunk and disorderly to the truly bizarre, there is a new drama on display every night. This song is a matter-of-fact, mellon collie commentary.

Instead of the standard party song with that title, I wrote a moody little number about how many of the folks who hang around to last call are far from a party. Closing a bar is often like shuffling out house guests that have overstayed their welcome. Despite the song's bleakness, it does manage to "wish upon a star" in the end, leaving a hint of optimism to the mood.

I put this second to last on the disc like it would be at a show if someone told me it was last call. You generally play at least one or two more songs during that last drink.

That's the sound of bottles being discarded throughout the entire song. I recorded them at one of my shows along with the banter and laughter... some of my favorite parts on the record! FUN!
