I wrote this song for a family member who was diagnosed with Autism. I did not want to alienate her by using her real name. I remembered a scene in "Titanic" where they sing a bit of an early 1900's song about a woman named "Josephine" and her flying machine. It always stuck with me, so I built this song around that name instead. This is probably when I also got the idea to do an old 1900's vibe to the "Don't Try This at Home" cover art. This is the second song from the CD that I did a video for (on YouTube) to help promote Autism awareness. I have played this at several Autism benefits since. lyrics
JOSEPHINE
Josephine on her trapeze
Swings herself into a daydream
Up so high she longs to fly
Way out of touch
Beyond this life
Up and down she swings
Up and down again
Josephine on her trapeze
Up above reality
She's just like other girls you see
But her life is a puzzle
Missing one piece
Up and down she swings
Up and down again
She points her toes towards the sky so graceful
And reaches up to touch the sunshine
A sea of people cheer under her feet
And for a moment she's alright
Josephine on her trapeze
Sits alone imagining
Mother watches through the screen
Wishes every hope and dream come true
For Josephine
Josephine
You can be
Anything that you
Want to be
Mmm Hmm
Up and down she swings
Up and down again
Up and down she swings
Up and down again
