about
This is the last song on the disc, but it was done pretty early. Like "Whirlwind", it was initially written about the end of a relationship, but it served as a bigger ending to the whole idea of the CD. That we are all here on a personal journey that will not last forever. The extended outro ending serves as a silver-lining epic to lift the song out of it's matter-of-fact delivery. This whole experience we call life is itself a "Rite of Passage" and it's a privilege just to take part in it all.
lyrics
FINAL
No more waiting half the night
Just to have you one more time
No more open door at two
I finally feel abused
No more trying to justify
Who is wrong, what is right?
No more home away from home
You're finally on your own
It finally got old
The fire finally burned cold
And finally I choose to see the fact I’ve ignored
You and I are final
You and I are final
You and I are final
No more running to the phone
Every time you feel alone
No more hiding from the truth
I’m not the one for you
It finally got old
The fire finally burned cold
Finally I choose to see the fact I’ve ignored
You and I are final
You and I are final
You and I are final
No more up all night
'Till you’re satisfied
Whispers in your ear
Fingers through your hair
No more afternoon
Rendezvous with you
Now there’s nothing more that I can do
It finally got old
The fire finally burned cold
Finally I choose to see the fact I’ve ignored
You and I are final
You and I are final
You and I are final
NOTHING LASTS FOREVER
Don't cry just because we're not together
You and I were not meant to last forever
'Cause nothing lasts forever
Nothing lasts forever
Nothing lasts forever
